Hells Gate National Park | Naivasha
Hell's gate is the only National park in Kenya where you will be free to leave your vehicles and walk around amidst wildlife. It's 110 km from Nairobi at the edge of Lake Naivasha covering an area of about 68 Square Km.
It is famous for its natural hot geysers, eagles and vultures breeding grounds where the visitors have the choice of driving, walking, camping, cycling, rock climbing and horse riding which can be arranged, all within the park.
Among the must see scenic locations in Hell's Gate includes;
Fischer's towers, formally a volcano's plug, standing at 25 meters tall the central tower and the Njorowa gorges. Seasoned rock climbing enthusiast will be seen climbing their way to the top of this monument.
Ol Njorowa gorge at 24 Km long is however the jewel of Hell's gate. Its 24 Km long deep ravine which is lined with sheer cliffs, and endowed with hot water springs feeds a stream that meanders down the floor of the gorge as it cuts it's way through the rugged and semi-arid surrounding landscape. The gorge widens out as it weaves it's way down and out of the National Park.
Its arguably one of the scenic places to go for a weekend hike Cycling through this park viewing the wildlife as you enjoy the surrounding scenery is an incredible favorite pass time activity in this place for visitors. It has become relatively possible due to the ease of access for bicycles in the vicinity.
There are also two extinct Olkaria and Hobley's which are worth your visit where natural steam vents rises from the fissures in the volcanic rock.
You will also learn more of the Obsidian, a striking black glassy rock formed from cooled molten lava forming a common feature in this landscape.
The games to view includes the Buffalos, Masai giraffes, elands, coke's hartebeest, lion, leopard and cheetah.
This breathtaking scenery has inspired the filming of various Hollywood movies in this location over the years.
