- Diving, snorkeling & water sports
- Diani Beach is one of the greatest water sports destinations in East Africa. Sports such as Kayaking, jet-skiing, windsurfing, kitesurfing, paddle boarding and scuba-diving are all available. Nonetheless, depending on your pace or skill level there is definitely something for you.
- Some of the best places to visit and engage in snorkeling and diving, are in the Marine parks. These are areas of protected waters that conserve marine life and the ecosystem.
- This Marine park puts Kenya as one of the few places in the world where reef sharks are seen frequently. Similarly, whilst exploring under the surface of these waters, you are likely to find the endangered Green and Hawksbill turtles – for this is their home.

- Sky Diving: If you are that type of visitor who is keen to see the landscape from a birds-eye view at 12,000 ft, then skydiving over Diani beach must be in the list of your priorities. Infact Diani beach has become a large attraction amongst some of the finest scenery in the world.
- Deep-Sea Fishing: If you desire to spot most of the fish, the best months to take this trip is between September to April. However, the availability of fish depends on the season, temperature and bait used.
- Glass Boat Tours:These are usually day outs if you prefer to stay dry but still want to experience the vast water ecosystem. When you sail on a glass-bottom boat you will see many varieties of colourful fish swimming beneath you. Youi will also learn from guides about marine life and the local myths of the Indian Ocean.
Wildlife
All around the region, you will spot the five main species of primates living in the Diani area. They are; the yellow baboon, the Angolan Colobus, the vervet money, the Sykes monkey and bush-babies.
In Diani area alone, more than 400 Angolan Colobus have been identified. This number is considered as one of the highest concentrations in a country. They are however classified as rare species in Kenya.
Other marine lives you will find includes, Dolphins, sharks, sea turtles, and whales are often spotted in the deep blue waters off the Kenyan coast.
When to visit Diani Beach
Diani is best visited between December to March and June to September. Its during these months when the climate is perfect with little rain and lots of hot, sunny weather.
The Indian Ocean is very warm all year around, with the water temperature ranging between 26°C to 29°C.
How to get to Diani Beach
The best way to get to Diani beach is by flying from Nairobi Wilson Airport to the Ukunda Airstrip. It is a fast and cheap option.
There is also the option to fly from Nairobi’s International Airport to Mombasa, and then take a taxi journey to Diani Beach.
Whereas the third option is by SGR Madaraka express train. This takes about 4 hours to the mombasa SGR station. From SGR to Diani beach you will use a taxi.
