Itinerary.

DAY 1: NAIROBI – MAASAI MARA NATIONAL RESERVE

You will be picked up in the morning from your Nairobi Hotel / JKIA Airport and drive down the Great Rift Valley escarpment, you will then turnoff on the main road across the Great Rift Valley and head towards Narok gateway to the Maasai Mara and district headquarters’ of this part of Maasai land. You’ll travel across the “breakfast” of Kenya, covered with acres of wheat and barley, before you reach your destination, Mara by lunchtime. After lunch enjoy free time till 1600hrs where you start your first game viewing drive in the reserve regarded as the most magnificent natural theatre in the world. Set in the heart of Africa’s Great Plains, the Maasai Mara boasts 1’672 square kilometers of un spoilt wilderness. It is home to the highest concentration of animals and birds anywhere on the continent.

DAY 2: MAASAI MARA FULL DAY

You will wake up very early, take a cup of coffee, then set out on a morning game drive inside Maasai Mara. The morning game drive offers you a good chance of catching some great wildlife action because the animals are usually more active when the temperatures are cooler. Return to the lodge for breakfast, then spend the rest of the morning relaxing and enjoying the facilities at the safari lodge. After lunch, you will have adequate time for a siesta, followed later by an evening game drive in the national reserve. Alternatively, instead of a morning and afternoon game drive, you can opt for a full day game drive. This is especially recommended during the wildebeest migration season. In this case, you will take an early breakfast, then leave the lodge carrying parked lunch in picnic boxes. You will spend full day exploring the vast plains inhabited by a great variety of big game and plains animals.

DAY 3: MAASAI MARA FULL DAY

Early morning tea or coffee and thereafter enjoy a full day in the Mara with game drives included. It is a reserve of breathtaking vistas, panoramas of vast rolling plains, hills and woodland groves, well watered by the lovely Mara River, which bisects the Reserve from north to south. The Mara is home to the largest population of lions in Kenya, these magnificent beasts spending most of the day sleeping in the shade of acacia trees. Vast herds of buffalo and zebra roam the plains, Impala, gazelle, giraffe and wildebeest grace the landscape, and the cautious topi may also be seen standing sentinel on earth mounds on constant lookout of predators. The waters of the Mara River are home to crocodiles and pools of hippo, the acacia woodlands and riverine forests favored by leopard and elephant, and the open Savannah and dry bush areas play host to the plains game and their attendant predators such as lion, cheetah, hyena and jackal.

DAY 4: MAASAI MARA – LAKE NAKURU NATIONAL PARK

Breakfast at Mara Sopa Lodge with a morning game drive en-route to Nakuru. Arrive in time for lunch at your Nakuru lodge. Lake Nakuru National Park is home to warthogs, waterbuck, buffaloes, reedbucks, and the occasional leopard. White and black rhinos were introduced to the park some years ago and you will find white rhino at the southern end. The park has also retained its reputation as an ornithologists’ delight with more than 400 species of bird found here. Afternoon game drive followed by dinner and overnight stay.

DAY 5: LAKE NAKURU – AMBOSELI NATIONAL PARK

Take an early breakfast at the lodge, then start the drive to Amboseli National Park. This will be another long drive, taking about 6 hours. You will carry parked lunch from the lodge in Lake Nakuru. Alternatively, you can also stop for lunch in a restaurant in Nairobi. Arrival in Amboseli in time for the afternoon game drive then later proceed to the lodge just before sunset. In the heart of the park is an amazing swamp fed by underground springs from the melting snows of Mount Kilimanjaro which attracts elephants and hippos in abundance. Amboseli is justly famous both for its big game – elephants, which are the most studied in the world. Living beside the most celebrated culture in the world- the Maasai, lions and cheetahs.

DAY 6: AMBOSELI NATIONAL PARK FULL DAY

With a full day to spend in Amboseli, you will have an early morning and a late afternoon game drive, giving you an opportunity for great wildlife photography against the backdrop of Mt Kilimanjaro. On clear days, the views are breath taking. Observation Hill offers panoramas of the peak and the park’s plains and swamps. Varied wildlife includes giraffes, zebras, cheetahs and hundreds of bird species. The western section is dominated by vast Lake Amboseli, which is dry outside the rainy season where you will have lunch and you enjoy game drive in evening then go back to your lodge for overnights stay.

DAY 7: AMBOSELI NATIONAL PARK – BEACH EXPERIENCE

Enjoy one last early morning safari drive in Amboseli, then take breakfast before departing for Mombasa. As we exit the park, you’ll be seeing your last views of Amboseli. However, on your upcoming train journey, you’ll be passing through both Tsavo West and Tsavo East Parks for more vistas and possibly wildlife viewing. Your driver/guide will bring you to the train station at Emali. There, he’ll assist you with tickets and transfer to the Madaraka Express, the new high-speed train to Mombasa and the coast. Upon arrival in Mombasa, you will be picked up and transferred to your beach hotel, to start your beach holiday.

DAY 8 – 10: BEACH EXPERIENCE

You have three full days to spend at your own pleasure. You can decide to simply relax at the beach or enjoy a multitude of water sports and other activities. If you would like, we can also arrange for guided tours to nearby attractions in Mombasa and surrounding areas at an extra cost.

DAY 11: MOMBASA BEACH – NAIROBI

After breakfast at the hotel, our representative will pick you up and transfer you to the SGR Train station in Mombasa for your journey back to Nairobi with the last possible game viewing as you pass through Tsavo West and Tsavo East National Parks. Upon arrival in Nairobi, you will be transferred to your hotel.
