Itinerary.

Day 1: Nairobi / Samburu National Park

Pick up from your hotel or the airport and drive northward to the Central Highlands where you cross the Equator as you approach a grand Mt. Kenya, a latent volcano with a luminous cap of snow and ice. After a short stopover, proceed with your drive to Samburu National Reserve in Kenya’s semi-desert, rugged northern frontier. En route to your lodge take pleasure in your first game-viewing drive. Settle into your contented lodge in the heart of the reserve in time for dinner.

Day 2: Samburu National Reserve

Prepare yourself for an amazing region along the Ewaso Nyiro River, Samburu is home to some of Africa’s rarest game species. The river’s permanent waters abound with crocodile and hippo and attract plenty of wildlife including the shy oryx beisa, Grevy’s zebra, the long-necked gerenuk antelope and the Somali ostrich. Cheetah, Leopard and lion are also found in the reserve too. You will spend your morning game viewing which commences morning after breakfast when the animals are most active. Get ready for photo shooting and coverage as your game spotter leads you in search of the animals and you’ll have plenty of opportunities to photograph your sightings. Retire to the lodge for lunch and relax. In the evening, go forth on additional game viewing.

Day 3: Samburu / Sweetwaters (Ol Pejeta Conservancy)

After breakfast, depart for Mt Kenya region, arriving in time for lunch at Sweetwaters Serena Camp. The privately owned, 24,000 acre, Sweetwaters game reserve and chimpanzee sanctuary has an abundance of wildlife and tropical vegetation and offers unparalleled views across the bush to the snow-capped peaks of Mount Kenya. It boasts all of the “Big 5” game – Lion, Elephant, Rhino, Leopard and Buffalo. It is in this beauty-saturated location that you will take a game drive until dusk.

Day 4: Sweewaters / Lake Nakuru National Park

After breakfast leave Sweetwaters and proceed through the Great Rift Valley to Lake Nakuru arriving in time for lunch. An afternoon game drive takes us round the Lake; home of the famous pink flamingo. Lake Nakuru houses Kenya’s first rhino sanctuary and one of the largest concentrations of black rhinoceros in the world a large population of white rhino. The park features the picturesque Malaika Waterfalls. Also of interest is an area of 188 km around the lake fenced off as a sanctuary to protect Rothschild giraffes. Among predators are lion, leopard and large pythons hiding in the dense woodlands which may occasionally be seen crossing roads or dangling from trees. Other game include Thomson’s and Grant gazelle, the long- eared leaf-nosed bat, colobus monkey, rock hyrax, hippo, and waterbuck; Impala, striped hyena, bat-eared fox, wildcat, reedbuck and golden cat.

Day 5: Lake Nakuru / Maasai Mara Game Reserve

You will wake up for your breakfast. After breakfast you will depart Lake Nakuru for Masai Mara National Park arriving in time for lunch. After checking in your lodge, you will settle down for your lunch. After lunch you will have a short time to relax before you head for an afternoon game drive in this top-class game reserve. You will do your game drive till late in the evening before you return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 6: Maasai Mara Game Reserve

Masai Mara is named after the traditional inhabitants (Masai) and the Mara River. At some point during your stay in the Mara, you’ll drive by the river which is a great place to spot wildlife. This area is a photographer’s delight where with any luck you’ll be able to take amazing pictures of the hippos and elephants in the water. Spend a full day at the reserve with morning and afternoon game drives in search of the ‘big 5’. Masai Mara is home to the splendid black–maned lion, the elusive leopard, stately giraffe, vast bulk of elephants, rhino, thundering herds of zebra, migrating wildebeest and numerous other game. The small size funnels animals into a tight space, and park rules allow for off-road driving which means that guests can venture into plains covered with hundreds or even thousands of animals. Take an optional hot air balloon ride over the plains, with the opportunity for amazing pictures of the animal herds below.

Day 7: Maasai Mara / Nairobi

After breakfast at your lodge, you will commence your drive back to Nairobi. Arriving late afternoon with a drop off at the airport or your hotel.
