  • Welcome to the Samburu National Reserve, an extraordinary sanctuary for rare and unique wildlife species located in the northeastern region of Laikipia, Kenya.

Covering an area of 165 square kilometers (64 square miles), this reserve is operated by the local Samburu communities under a centralized local council, and it has been designed to provide a safe haven for some of the most threatened species in the world.

As you embark on a journey of exploration with Blavals Adventure, you will encounter a diverse range of flora and fauna that is sure to leave you in awe. The reserve is home to some of Africa's rarest and most beautiful animals, including great egrets, African darters, white-headed vultures, yellow-billed oxpeckers, and martial eagles.

You will also get to witness the transition of terrain from rolling plains to volcanic remnants, which creates a unique and exciting experience.

Our knowledgeable guides will lead you through guided game drives, nature walks, and birdwatching trips, providing you with a deeper understanding of the various treasures that the Samburu National Reserve has to offer.

You will have the opportunity to learn about the behaviors and habitats of the wildlife that reside in the reserve, as well as the challenges they face.

The Samburu National Reserve is also known for its rare and unique wildlife species, such as the Grevy's zebra, reticulated giraffe, Somali ostrich, and gerenuk. These animals are adapted to the arid conditions of the reserve and are a sight to behold.

You can also visit the Ngare Ndare Forest Reserve, where you can hike to a breathtaking waterfall or go on a canopy walk.

To complete your safari experience, we offer a Local Cultural Visit to the Samburu people, who have lived alongside the wildlife in the reserve for centuries. You will get to immerse yourself in their culture and learn about their customs, beliefs, and way of life.

The Samburu people play a vital role in the success of the reserve, and their collaboration with the local council has helped to protect the wildlife and the environment.

In some cases, you may require a double or multiple entry visa, especially if your itinerary involves entering a country, leaving, and then returning.

    FLIGHT BOOKING

The flight distance between New York City and Nairobi is 7,351 miles.

However, several airlines offer itineraries to Kenya, and their bookings are all available online for your convenience. Your discretion in choosing which to use is allowed.

Always ensure that you reconfirm the Flight.

    Luggage & Packing
Baggage allowances typically include a maximum weight of 50 lbs (23kg) and a total dimension limit of 62 inches (length + width + height).

    Carry on Luggage.
It is important to pack essential items that you would need in case your checked bags are lost, in your carry-on bag. Items like prescription medications, eyeglasses, a change of clothes, a mobile phone and charger, valuables such as jewelry and cash, passports, keys, insurance cards, and local contact information should be considered.

Moreover, it is advisable to pack an extra set of clothes in your carry-on luggage in case your bags are delayed or misplaced.

    DESTINATION INFORMATION

    Arrive On Time.
You should arrive at the airport at least two hours before a domestic flight and three hours before an international flight to allow time for additional security checks.

    Connecting Passengers.
Passengers connecting from other US locations should check their bags all the way to their final destination. Some airlines do not allow interlining of checked bags, and each destination flight's luggage must be checked separately.

    Destination Landing and Eventual Departure.
Please complete immigration procedures upon arrival and collect your luggage. Refer to your voucher for specific instructions on airport shuttle services.

    Transfer.
It is recommended that you provide our representative with an additional 30 minutes from the time of your booked transfer to account for any local traffic or other unavoidable situations. Transfers to and from the airport are included, so there's no need to worry about being late for your tour. Any potential delays are taken into account when booking transfers.

    During Game Safaris.
When you are packing for your safari trip, it's important to use a soft-sided duffel bag and pack lightly. Safari vehicles have limited space, so it's recommended to avoid using conventional luggage with rigid frames or hard plastic panels. Also, please note that single-use plastic bags are not allowed due to environmental reasons.

    YOUR TOUR INFORMATION.

    Tour Vehicles.
Most of the time on safari will be spent driving on rough, bumpy roads in non-air-conditioned vehicles with high ground clearance that require agility to embark and disembark.

    Tour journey in Destination Country.
The number of participants on your trip may vary as we accommodate visitors joining at different points in the schedule. Early morning starts and bush toilets are common during game drives.

    Overland Sightseeing.
There is a required seat rotation policy on our Customized Tour Vehicles, which will be coordinated by your Tour Manager, to ensure that travelers on tour-guided safaris have a positive and equitable experience. During this tour, you may come into proximity to wild animals whose actions can be unpredictable.

Participation in any such activities should only be decided upon voluntarily and after careful contemplation.

    Souvenir Shopping.
Most tourists like to bring back at least one memento from their travels.  We have included a few shopping pit stops at suggested locations in our Escorted itinerary. These stops are intended to improve your experience by giving you the chance to inspect high-quality, locally-made goods that you might not be able to locate on your own.

    ABOUT ACCOMMODATION & MONEY

    About Your Accommodations.
Each hotel is chosen with care, taking into account its overall quality, location, cost, food, service, and cleanliness. Standard twin-bedded (two single beds) rooms with private bathrooms are available in every room. Many of the accommodations are built in the traditional local style and have no air-conditioning. Some of our tours require walking or stairs between tents.

Unless otherwise specified, choosing a room is always completely up to the hotel's management on a run-of-house basis.

    Electricity in Safari Camps.
Some camps and lodges rely on generators to supply electricity, which may not always be available. Travelers who are using power-dependent devices must inform the travel manager in advance so that arrangements can be made to keep them plugged on through the night.

    Electricity Specification
Please note: The U.S. uses 120 volts and you can purchase a converter and transformer at most hardware stores for your 120V appliances.
Kenya - The voltage used is 220/240 volts, 3-pin square (UK standard)
Tanzania - The voltage used is 230 volts, 3-pin square (UK standard).

    Hotel Check-in/ Check-out.
Check-in times at hotels are typically after 4:00 p.m. and check-out times are before midday. Hotels will typically let you store your stuff in their luggage room if you're planning on arriving early or leaving late. If the hotel can check you in earlier or let you stay later, inquire at the front desk.

    Currency.
Before you leave your country, we advise that you get a small quantity of currency for the first country you'll be visiting. A smart strategy is to avoid carrying too much cash.
The majority of ATM cards are accepted by ATMs in many different countries but only dispense in the local currency.

    Credit Cards
Even while credit cards are generally accepted, it is still a good idea to have local cash on hand. To prevent your card from being stopped for security concerns, let your credit card issuer know you will be traveling.
