DAY 1 & 2: NAIROBI – WILDLIFE INTRODUCTIONS FROM THE CITY.

Kenya is usually a long way from home. Having a leisurely first day will help you overcome the travel fatigue and prepare for eight days in the bush.

After landing at Nairobi’s International Airport, you will be received by a guide for a private transfer to Eka Hotel, which is sandwiched between JKIA and Nairobi’s National Park. Giraffe and elephant encounters are possible in this area so you can jump straight into the wildlife.

Nairobi, which incidentally is Eastern Africa's biggest city, is not quite as you would expect. Yes, there are skyscrapers and busy urban spaces, but they are combined with an animal park where you find wandering giraffes and buffalos in the vast expanses of green just a few meters from your hotel room.

Wildlife used to roam freely, and Nairobi National Park is now fenced to keep the herds of lions and buffalos away from the streets.

Nairobi was originally set in a rural location, as an old colonial capital built upon rolling hills - but has worn the face of an urban town and city today.

If you are tired, you can rest at your hotel and save energy for the coming days.

    - Accommodation.

By 9h15, you will have landed at Livingstone Airport from JKIA Nairobi. Within the next hour, you will have left the airport and driven along the Zambezi River for lunch at Golden Leaf Indian Restaurant. Thereafter, in the afternoon, you will arrive and check in at Avani Victoria Falls Resort.

Standing over the river, close enough to hear the rumble of Victoria Falls, this five-star Resort provides a private space of luxury for exploring another African icon.

    Avani Victoria Falls Resort Highlights.
Avani Resort boasts of its proximity to the actual waterfall itself. The location in relation to Victoria Falls is most advantageous, and guests at Avani can visit the falls as often as they like without paying the National Parks fees.

The Avani Victoria Falls Resort is very family-friendly, caters to all types of guests, and has many facilities for everyone. For 3-star accommodations, staying at this hotel is a bit pricey. However, the resort's convenience, facilities, and services make up for it.

DAY 4: VICTORIA FALLS – THE RAW BEAUTY OF VICTORIA FALLS.

You will be picked up from the hotel's helipad, the propellers whirling as you rise above the Zambezi River.

You will soar over the mile-wide sheet of water, descending for over 100 meters before rising back up in swirls of mist that fill Victoria Falls with enchantment.

The helicopter flies and follows the gorge eastward before returning to the Falls to drop you down. The propellers will stop, and another sound will take over that convinces you why the locals call this Mosi oa Tunya -  the smoke then thunders.

You will walk alongside the raw power of the falls, wandering a trail dotted with baboons. Through the trees, you will get a close-up of the cascade that rumbles insatiably as it soaks you to the skin. The spray comes down hard and will cause you to run across the trail.

While the Victoria Falls aesthetics are inspiring, the power of the falls will prove unforgettable.

The spray rains down, and you cannot escape it. Much like on safari, you are completely immersed in everything this natural theater is about. After your guided walk along the falls, you can cross the bridge into Zimbabwe and see them from the other side.

You will return to your hotel later in the afternoon for lunch, and the eventual day ends within the hotel.

After your morning breakfast, you will have time to explore all the city offers. A private guide will tailor your plans for the day, and there will be numerous options. In the green suburb of Karen, you can meet rehabilitated elephants and the products of a successful Rothschild giraffe breeding program.

Visit the Masai Market and tour the city center to admire the vibrant chaos of life and color. You could also visit Karen Blixen's house and recreate scenes from Out of Africa and then have dinner in one of the most famous restaurants in Nairobi, the Tandoori Partio Restaurant.

DAY 8: TRAVEL TO MASAI WARRIOR LAND - THE FAMED PLAINS OF THE MASAI MARA.

Today, excitement builds as you depart Nairobi for the climax of your Kenyan adventure: safaris to & through the Masai Mara. This reserve is undoubtedly the country’s most precious wildlife sanctuary and certainly sits among the most famed national parks on the continent.

Without wasting time, you will load your baggage into the truck and drive towards the famed Maasai Mara National Park. Over this six-hour drive, the landscapes will transform dramatically as you move through the Great Rift Valley and into the heart of the Maasai Warrior homeland.

The town of Narok will be the final city before you enter the farmland surrounding the Mara. Shortly after, you will pass through the park gates and drive towards your safari camp located on the banks of the Talek River.

The drive's final two and a half hours is on a rough bush track through the park. Driving this road is often a game drive in and of itself, with zebra, impala, and wildebeest dotting the roadside. Arriving just in time for lunch, you will check in and unwind at your leisure until 16h00, when you will get into a late afternoon safari game drive.

You will have ample opportunities to search for Africa’s Big Five. Hunters named this group in reference to their high level of danger and elusiveness. Today, however, the buffalo, lion, leopard, elephant, and rhino stand among the most coveted sightings in the bush.

While ever impressive, these species exist alongside many other equally wonderful creatures. Giraffes are often seen peaking their heads out of acacia treetops, while families of warthogs scuttle beneath their legs.

Guides will provide plenty of information on some of the lesser-known residents of the Mara, ensuring that this afternoon’s safari goes far beyond straight sightseeing.

DAY 9: MASAI MARA NATIONAL RESERVE – WILDEBEEST ALONG THE MARA RIVER.

Every June and July, over a million wildebeest and zebra make their famous Mara River crossing to swap the Serengeti for the Masai Mara. June to September, the Mara plains flood with this influx of herds. But this is a place of mammal abundance all year around as not all wildebeest and zebra migrate.

Most big cats stay put and protect their territory while awaiting prey's bounty. Whenever you visit this famous reserve, you are guaranteed to see galloping herds of wildebeest, mass groups of zebra, and a wide variety of predators.

On this day, you will go on a full-day game drive to seek out the parts of the Masai Mara where most animals congregate. On open grasslands, you will see a leopard out hunting as it hides in the grass before it strikes a Thomson's gazelle herd. Drive onwards until buffalo block the trail; you must wait for them to pass.

Next, you will see elephant bulls roaming freely in the trees and crashing against the branches as a baboon troop shouts. Move next to the Mara River to stop for a picnic with a prime view of the bathing hippos.

Continue across the plains to a lion pride, which rests with bloated bellies, and then to the iconic sight of the big herds as thousands of mammals graze together against a backdrop of predatory fear. One full-day game drive is a perfect way to see these incredible sights and begin to grasp just how big this landscape is.

DAY 10: MASAI MARA NATIONAL RESERVE – THE HOT AIR BALLOON SAFARI.

One of the most romantic and luxurious ways to experience these vast and captivating plains is to sail above them in a hot air balloon. Hot air balloons are based at your camp, and balloons depart nearly every morning. Lifting off in the early morning light, the balloon drifts with the wind across these endless plains, speckled with herds of wildebeest and acacia trees below.

As the morning sky transforms around you, it will feel like you have been transported back to the bygone world of early safaris. The elegance of the experience is rounded off with a champagne breakfast in the bush before you return to the camp.

Begin with an early-morning start, and soon, you will be soaring above the plains, looking down on the herds from a hot air balloon. Sunrise paints the sky, and the landscape stretches for eternity with swathes of green dappled with the herds in their great numbers.

From the sky, you can appreciate Mara's migratory movements on a dramatic scale. Touch down for your bush breakfast before embarking on a short stint of game drive en-route visit to Masai Village.

Once you enter the Masai Homestead, you will freely interact with the small, teenagers, adults, and Aged. As opposed to the nature of a national reserve, where you are bound to remain inside the vehicle, here you can explore on foot, mingle and learn by questions, or listen to the planned educative presentations already available for you.

We will later move back to the hotel for lunch and relaxation at your pleasure for the rest of the day.

DAY 12 - 13: TRAVEL TO THE REMOTE TSAVO WEST NATIONAL PARK, ARRIVING FOR A GAME DRIVE

After breakfast, you will be transferred to Syokimau SGR Terminus to depart at 08h00, traveling east towards Tsavo West National Park. Landscapes progress from urban to farmland to volcanic as you approach this remote corner of Kenya, where your African adventure will excitedly continue!

A driver guide will be waiting to pick you up at Mtito Adei SGR station and drive you into the park. You will drive towards the Saltlick Safari Lodge, a stunning stone-built lodge that blends seamlessly into the surroundings.

Located in the hearts of the Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary, Saltlick Safari Lodge is truly a magnificent and unique architectural concept consisting of 96 distinctively luxurious oval-shaped rooms overlooking a waterhole, which attracts an extensive array of wildlife, especially elephants, which are the main spectacular sights to behold – and it will be a fascinating first site of exploration.

You will be welcomed to Saltlick with a fresh lunch in the open-air dining room, with Kilimanjaro looming in the distance. Take a few moments to relax and unwind before setting out with a guide on your first African game drive!  As the sun begins to sink over the serrated horizon, drive back towards the lodge, arriving in time for cocktails, appetizers, and a freshly made dinner.

Today will have been a long and adrenaline-filled day, and you will likely be keen to retire to your luxury suite early in preparation for the days ahead.

DAY 14 -15: TWO DAYS AMBOSELI NATIONAL PARK – ELEPHANTS BENEATH KILIMANJARO.

Following a breakfast of fruit, pastries, and coffee, you will retrace your steps westwards, moving into the shadow of Kilimanjaro. Here, vast plains sprawl beneath the snow-capped peak of the tallest free-standing mountain in Africa while enormous herds of elephants gracefully roam the horizon.

Lush and magical, game drives through Amboseli perfectly complement yesterday’s time spent in Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary. You will arrive at the Amboseli Serena Safari Lodge around midday, again with time for lunch and relaxation before embarking on adventures through this picturesque landscape.

It is ideal to begin your adventures in the late afternoon when the bush livens as the midday heat lessens. During this time, lions, leopards, and gazelles emerge from their shaded afternoon spots in search of greener pastures and evening meals. Drive slowly across the plains and between the glacial-fed streams as you move towards the park’s central lake - lake Amboseli.

Walk into the hide that overlooks the watering hole, where you can watch the afternoon activity from this unnoticed vantage point. Though Amboseli is one of Kenya’s more popular parks, moments in this hide and in other secluded areas found by your expert guide will help to create a sense of exclusivity and independence.

As daylight dwindles, head towards Observation Hill for a cocktail overlooking the park as the sky transforms around this iconic landscape.

Return to the lodge in the early evening, where you will be met with a locally inspired meal with views of the uninterrupted starry night sky. Spend a few final moments tonight around the fire before retiring to your Masai-inspired private suite in the heart of the bush.

Spend a full-day Game drive on day 2, or you can relax and fully settle in the lodge, rewinding and reminiscing on the beautiful experiences from the varied landscapes, flora, and fauna. This is considering that there is far fewer new sighting to take in, having had over a week on safari.

You will fly over the plains and farms underneath and watch from the sky as the landscape shifts from bush to farmland to an urban landscape.

    Hotel Check-in/ Check-out.
Hotel check-in times are typically after 4:00 p.m., and check-out times are before midday. Hotels will typically let you store your stuff in their luggage room if you plan on arriving early or leaving late. If the hotel can check you in earlier or let you stay later, inquire at the front desk.

    Currency.
Before you leave your country, we advise that you get a small quantity of currency for the first country you'll be visiting. A smart strategy is to avoid carrying too much cash.
ATMs accept most ATM cards in many countries but only dispense in the local currency.

    Credit Cards
Even while credit cards are generally accepted, having local cash on hand is still a good idea. Let your credit card issuer know you will be traveling to prevent your card from being stopped for security concerns.
