  • COUNTRIES VISITED.
    Kenya.

    PLACES VISITED.
Nairobi, Masai Mara National Reserve, Tsavo West National Park, Giraffes Centre, Kazuri Beads & Elephant Orphanage.

    SUGGESTED DURATION.
    11 Days.

This tour begins in the infamous and majestic plains of the Masai Mara.

The three days in Masai Mara will be spent in pursuit of intimate wildlife encounters as you follow dusty trails across the savanna. If timed correctly, you will easily find yourself within the heart of the Great Wildebeest Migration, one of the World’s most remarkable natural spectacles.

Carnivores often escort the two million ungulates, creating thrilling and unbelievable wildlife spotting. It's without a doubt that this will make up the ultimate climax of this Kenyan safari holiday.

You will then head towards the eastern corner of Kenya, to Taita Hills sanctuary with the train. Your driver will be waiting for you at Mtito Adei and will drive you to Saltlick Safari Lodge.

On your way, you will get a passing opportunity to explore the jagged peaks of Tsavo West and the Chyulu Hills before arriving at Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary, which is a privately owned conservation area located at the foot of the beautiful Taita Hills, adjacent to one of the World's most prominent resort in Kenya, Tsavo west National Park.

From here, journey into the shadow of the highest peak in Africa as you enter Amboseli National Park. With Mount Kilimanjaro as a picturesque backdrop for safaris, seek close encounters with some of Africa’s most giant elephants on the expansive and tranquil plains.

From Amboseli, drive back to Kenya's colorful capital, Nairobi. Along the way, you will see wooden roadside stalls heaped with mountains of fruit for sale, the City Market offers an atmospheric feast for the daily customers, and the National Museum provides an intriguing insight into the country's history.

From another perspective, there are skyscrapers and busy urban spaces. Still, they are combined with an animal park where you find wandering giraffes and buffalos in the vast expanses of green just a few meters from your hotel room.

On reaching Nairobi, you will be transferred to The EKA Hotel, located along the busy Mombasa Road highway that overlooks the Nairobi National Park's savannah. You may decide to stay on and visit the Coast or Mountain Region - if not, fly out back to your country.

Upon arrival in Nairobi, you will begin your Kenya safari adventure. You can transfer directly to your first destination, take the rest of the day to get acclimated to the new time zone, or go on an independent city tour. Your overnight stay can either be in Nairobi or outside of the city.

DAY 1 & 2: NAIROBI – WILDLIFE INTRODUCTIONS FROM THE CITY.

Eastern Africa's biggest city is not quite as visitors would expect. Yes, there are skyscrapers and busy urban spaces, but they are combined with an animal park where you find wandering giraffes and buffalos in the vast expanses of green just a few meters from your hotel room.

Nairobi has a rural setup, initially an old colonial capital built upon rolling hills. Wildlife used to roam freely, and Nairobi National Park is now fenced to keep the herds of lions and buffalos away from the streets. Nature used to roam freely, and Nairobi National Park is now fenced to keep the hordes of lions and buffalos away from the streets.

After landing at Nairobi International Airport, you will be transferred to The EKA Hotel, located along the busy Mombasa Road highway that overlooks the Nairobi National Park's savannah. While avoiding the bustle of the city, this first night provides accessible introductions to the wildlife and landscapes of Africa.

You will spend a whole day in Nairobi, the capital city, which will be essential for a clear concept of what to expect for the days ahead. After your morning breakfast, you will have time to explore some of the destinations we have set aside for you to visit. A private guide will walk you through the plans for the day, and there will be numerous options.

In the green suburb of Karen, you can meet rehabilitated elephants and the products of a successful Rothschild giraffe breeding program. Visit the Masai Market and tour the city center to admire the vibrant chaos of life and color.

You could also visit Karen Blixen's house, recreate scenes from Out of Africa, and then discover Africa's most famous restaurant, Carnivore.

DAY 3: TRAVEL TO MASAI WARRIOR LAND - THE FAMED PLAINS OF THE MASAI MARA.

Today, excitement will build as you depart Nairobi for the climax of your Kenyan adventure: safaris to & through the Masai Mara. This reserve is undoubtedly the country's most precious wildlife sanctuary and sits among the most famed national parks on the continent.

Without wasting time, you will load your baggage into the truck and drive towards the famed Maasai Mara National Park. Over this six-hour drive, the landscapes will transform dramatically as you move through the Great Rift Valley and into the heart of the Maasai Warrior homeland.

The town of Narok will be the final city before you enter the farmland surrounding the Mara. Shortly after, you will pass through the park gates and drive towards your safari camp located on the banks of the Talek River.

Then, the final two and a half hours drive is on a rough bush track through the park.

Driving this road is often a game drive in and of itself, with zebra, impala, and wildebeest dotting the roadside. Arriving just in time for lunch, you will check in and unwind at your leisure until 16h00, when you will get into a late afternoon safari game drive.

You will have ample opportunities to search for Africa's Big Five. Hunters named this group for their high level of danger and elusiveness.

Today, however, the buffalo, lion, leopard, elephant, and rhino stand among the most coveted sightings in the bush.

While ever impressive, these species exist alongside many other equally beautiful creatures. Giraffes are often seen peaking their heads out of acacia treetops, while families of warthogs scuttle beneath their legs.

Guides will provide plenty of information on some of the lesser-known residents of the Mara, ensuring that this afternoon's safari goes far beyond straight sightseeing.

DAY 4: MASAI MARA NATIONAL RESERVE – WILDEBEEST ALONG THE MARA RIVER.

Every June and July, over a million wildebeest and zebra make their famous Mara River crossing to swap the Serengeti for the Masai Mara. June to September, the Mara plains flood with this influx of herds.

But this is a place of mammal abundance all year around as not all wildebeest and zebra migrate. Most big cats stay put and protect their territory while awaiting prey's bounty. Whenever you visit this famous reserve, you are guaranteed to see galloping herds of wildebeest, mass groups of zebra, and a wide variety of predators.

Today, you will go on a full-day game drive to seek out the parts of the Masai Mara where most animals congregate. On open grasslands, you will see a leopard out hunting as it hides in the grass before it strikes a Thomson's gazelle herd. Drive onwards until buffalo block the trail; you must wait for them to pass.

Next, you will see elephant bulls roaming freely in the trees and crashing against the branches as a baboon troop shouts. Move next to the Mara River to stop for a picnic with a prime view of the bathing hippos and Croccos.

Continue across the plains to a lion pride, which rests with bloated bellies, and then to the iconic sight of the big herds as thousands of mammals graze together against a backdrop of predatory fear.

One full-day game drive is a perfect way to see these incredible sights and begin to grasp just how big this landscape is.

DAY 5: MASAI MARA NATIONAL RESERVE – THE HOT AIR BALLOON SAFARI.

One of the most romantic and luxurious ways to experience these vast and captivating plains is to sail above them in a hot air balloon.

Hot air balloons are based at your camp, and balloons depart nearly every morning. Lifting off in the early morning light, the balloon drifts with the wind across these endless plains, dotted with herds of wildebeest and acacia trees below.

As the morning sky transforms around you, it will feel like you have been transported back to the ancient world of early safaris. The elegance of the experience is rounded off with a champagne breakfast in the bush before you return to the camp.

Begin with an early-morning start, and soon, you will be soaring above the plains, looking down on the herds from a hot air balloon. Sunrise paints the sky, and the landscape stretches for eternity with swathes of green dotted with the herds in their great numbers.

From the sky, you can appreciate the migratory movements and the dramatic scale of the Mara. Touch down for your bush breakfast before embarking on a short stint of game drive en-route visit to Masai Village.

Once you enter the Masai Homestead, you will freely interact with the petite, teenagers, adults, and Aged. Unlike the nature of a national reserve, where you are bound to remain inside the vehicle, you can explore on foot, mingle and learn by questions, or listen to the planned educative presentations already available.

We will later move back to the hotel for lunch and relaxation at your pleasure for the rest of the day.

A driver guide will be waiting to pick you up at Mtito Adei SGR station and drive you into the park. You will be driven towards the Saltlick Safari Lodge, a stunning stone-built lodge that blends seamlessly into the surroundings.

Located in the hearts of the Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary, Saltlick Safari Lodge is truly a magnificent and unique architectural concept consisting of 96 distinctively luxurious oval-shaped rooms overlooking a waterhole, which attracts an extensive array of wildlife, especially elephants, which are the main spectacular sights to behold – and it will be a fascinating first site of exploration.

You will be welcomed to Saltlick with a fresh lunch in the open-air dining room, with Kilimanjaro looming in the distance. Take a few moments to relax and unwind before setting out with a guide on your first African game drive!

As the sun begins to sink over the serrated horizon, drive back towards the lodge, arriving in time for cocktails, appetizers, and a freshly made dinner.

DAY 9 - 10: 2 DAYS TOWARDS AMBOSELI NATIONAL PARK, ARRIVING IN TIME FOR A SAFARI IN THE SHADOW OF MOUNT KILIMANJARO.

The snow-capped Uhuru Peak gazes down on Amboseli, Africa's highest point, rising dramatically from the surrounding grassy plains.

Elephants stroll across the landscape, their bodies silhouetted against the backdrop of Mount Kilimanjaro. Amboseli brings this fairytale view every morning, with elephants roaming wild beneath the world's highest freestanding mountain.

Take the panoramic from your beautiful lodge, admiring these majestic mammals as they freely wander past your room. You'll drive to Amboseli and arrive at the lodge in time for lunch and a long afternoon game drive.

Game viewing is accessible on these flat plains. Elephant interactions are everywhere. Small herds roll around in a swamp, youngsters struggle to keep pace with large herds, while melancholy old bulls stand lonely in the grass.

Bushy-haired buffalos head toward the water, kicking up swirling dust as they plod along the dusty ground. Besides the dry salt lake of Ol Tukai, a collection of mammals provides memorable first safari moments.

Giraffe, gazelle, wildebeest, and zebra; a colorful cast that grazes together, sentinels warning the rest if lion prides or cheetah are spotted nearby.

Life slows down when the intense midday sun scorches the ground. But at dawn and dusk, the park is at its most active. Predators roam, hippos emerge from the water, and the grazers are on full alert.

After an early morning game drive on day two, you'll visit a local Maasai village and learn about the unique culture of Amboseli's other residents.

The Maasai have coexisted with all these wild animals for thousands of years. This visit will reveal how their lifestyle and traditions have made this possible.

A late afternoon game drive follows, and hopefully, by now, you'll have come face-to-face with the park's black rhino population.

Back at the lodge, the safari experience continues into the night, those magnificent elephants easily spotted as they cross the open plains.

    FLIGHT BOOKING

Flight Preparation to Kenya from the USA.
Flights from New York City to Nairobi: JFK to NBO. The fastest direct flight from New York City to Nairobi takes 14 hours and 20 minutes.
The flight distance between New York City and Nairobi is 7,351 miles.

However, several airlines offer itineraries to Kenya, and their bookings are all available online for your convenience. Your discretion in choosing which to use is allowed.

Always ensure that you reconfirm the Flight.

    Luggage & Packing
Checked bags are typically limited to a total dimension of 62 inches by adding length + width + height (example: 26"+26"+10" = 62”) and a maximum weight of 50 lbs (23kg).

    Carry on Luggage.
We urge you to pack the items you would be without if your checked bags were lost in your carry-on bag. Prescription medications, eyeglasses, a change of clothes, a mobile phone and charger, valuables (including jewelry and cash), a passport, keys, insurance cards, and local contact information are a few things to remember.

Additionally, we advise you to pack a change of clothing in your carry-on suitcase if your luggage is delayed or misplaced.

    DESTINATION INFORMATION

    Arrive On Time.
You should plan to check in at least three hours before the scheduled departure time for international flights and two hours prior to the scheduled departure time for domestic flights due to additional security checks.

    Connecting Passengers.
Connecting passengers from other US locations should check their bags all the way to their final destination. Some airlines do not permit the "interlining" of checked bags; each destination flight's luggage is checked separately.

    Destination Landing and Eventual Departure.
Please finish all immigration procedures upon arrival and retrieve your bags. Check your voucher for detailed instructions if your program involves airport arrival shuttles, as they differ depending on the destination.

    Transfer.
We kindly suggest that you give our representative 30 minutes extra time from the time of your booked transfer due to local traffic and other unavoidable situations.
Transfers to and from the airport are included. You shouldn't worry about being late for your tour because such potential delays are considered when booking transfers.

    During Game Safaris.
Ensure to pack your items in a soft-sided duffel bag and pack lightly due to the constrained space in safari vehicles. Using conventional luggage with rigid frames or hard plastic panels is not recommended.
Please be aware that there is an environmental prohibition on single-use plastic bags.

    YOUR TOUR INFORMATION.

    Tour Vehicles.
Expect to spend most of the time driving over roads that are often rough and bumpy in safari vehicles that are not air-conditioned.
Safari vehicles have high ground clearance and require agility to embark and disembark.

    Tour journey in Destination Country.
The number of participants on your trip may change as we accommodate visitors at various points along the schedule.
There are many early mornings. Only "bush toilets" are available during game drives.

    Overland Sightseeing.
There is a required seat rotation policy on our Customized Tour Vehicles, which your Tour Manager will coordinate to ensure that travelers on tour-guided safaris have a positive and equitable experience.

    Independent Activities.
The schedule might suggest things to do in your free time, but this is not a recommendation or an endorsement of any particular vendor.
Participation in such activities should only be decided upon voluntarily and carefully.

    Souvenir Shopping.
Most tourists like to bring back at least one memento from their travels.  Our Escorted itinerary has included a few shopping pit stops at suggested locations. These stops are intended to improve your experience by allowing you to inspect high-quality, locally-made goods that you might not be able to locate on your own.

    Gratuities.
Tipping is always an individual decision.
    Suggested Tipping: Kenya
Safari Driver/Guide: US $10 per person per day
Hotel porters and wait staff: At your discretion.

    ABOUT ACCOMMODATION & MONEY

    About Your Accommodations.
Each hotel is chosen carefully, considering its overall quality, location, cost, food, service, and cleanliness. Standard twin-bedded (two single beds) rooms with private bathrooms are available in every room. Many accommodations are built in the traditional local style and have no air-conditioning. Some of our tours require walking or stairs between tents. During this tour, you may come close to wild animals whose actions can be unpredictable.

Unless otherwise specified, choosing a room is always completely up to the hotel's management on a run-of-house basis.

    Electricity in Safari Camps.
Some camps and lodges rely on generators to supply electricity, which may not always be available. Travelers using power-dependent devices must inform the travel manager in advance so that arrangements can be made to keep them plugged in through the night.

    Electricity Specification
Please note: The U.S. uses 120 volts, and you can purchase a converter and transformer at most hardware stores for your 120V appliances.
Kenya - The voltage used is 220/240 volts, 3-pin square (UK standard)
Tanzania - The voltage used is 230 volts, 3-pin square (UK standard).

    Hotel Check-in/ Check-out.
Hotel check-in times are typically after 4:00 p.m., and check-out times are before midday. Hotels will typically let you store your stuff in their luggage room if you plan on arriving early or leaving late. If the hotel can check you in earlier or let you stay later, inquire at the front desk.

    Currency.
Before you leave your country, we advise that you get a small quantity of currency for the first country you'll be visiting. A smart strategy is to avoid carrying too much cash.
ATMs accept most ATM cards in many countries but only dispense in the local currency.

    Credit Cards
Even while credit cards are generally accepted, having local cash on hand is still a good idea. Let your credit card issuer know you will be traveling to prevent your card from being stopped for security concerns.

    ABOUT YOUR HEALTH

    Staying Healthy While Traveling
All travelers should familiarize themselves with local conditions, such as high altitude or required immunizations, which could affect their health. We recommend you consult with your personal healthcare provider, the Centers for Disease Control (www.cdc.gov), and/or the World Health Organization (http://www.who.int/en/) for their recommendations.

    Health Checks.
Visitors to Kenya must carry proof of yellow fever vaccination if traveling through or from a country with a risk of yellow fever and are encouraged to consult their healthcare providers regarding malaria prophylaxis.
Before signing up for this tour, we suggest you check with your healthcare provider.
